Dear Reader
The sun is shining and I'm joyous to once again have big slots of quiet time to get on with my creative projects.
Feel like I've been riding a bike uphill but constantly pulled off it all Summer (actually I've been lolling in the garden or taking mini-breaks round the country!) and just haven't really managed to get my new 'big stuff' done.
This is why I'm such an advocate of having an 'any location' business model in place so you can create cash flow with your laptop & kick back sometimes but still live in the royal fashion you desire.
I'm ready to write my next book and have been researching all Summer and chilling out with my kids so it's all good. They are both ensconced over at High School now & my babies are growing up fast.
So happy I've been at home with them for the past 10 years. Building a business from home has it's challenges but it's a game changer in terms of quality family time.
Ok so enough of my sentimental mush right! What's new this week?
We've been talking about online business models and last week's challenge was to think about what your first (or next) 'evergreen' product will be.
The biggest obstacle you may have with this is deciding from the multiple options at your disposal, which of them to pursue.
Nuts I know but lack of opportunity is not the problem.
Chances are you have some ideas too but may be overwhelmed by the thought of breaking them down into action steps for your business.
Here's where I think the biggest digital opportunity and lowest hanging fruit dangles today; in Kindle publishing & partnering with Amazon.
If you like what I've done with The Niche Expert & Confidence in High Heels - positioning myself as an expert and creating a whole internet based business around my books then the good news is you can do this too for your niche.
Even if you're not an author.
I have a 'real' publisher for The Niche Expert but that isn't essential and you can choose to digitally publish your own words.
You simply write a book or content rich report (or have someone write one for you) about your expert topic and you publish it to Kindle in a flash. There are so many benefits to this but just a few of them are:
*Royalties (up to 70% of the retail price which is more than most authors ever dreamed of)
*Targeted red hot niche traffic to your website, blog or ecommerce store
*Expert positioning in any niche, which leads to all kinds of opportunities & free publicity for your business.
*You're ready for the digital economy & the mobile mega wave.
This is where we get into the online business model 'bit.'
On the back end of your book you can offer digital courses, physical products, consulting, coaching, online workshops etc.
Let's just say the 'big back end' is your oyster baby.
And by using Amazon's platform you partner with them at no cost and they promote you.
Google The Niche Expert and guess who's running (and paying for) Google pay-per-click adverts to promote my book and brand?
Answer: Amazon ... not me. I'm not big on paid advertising. Eversince I discovered content marketing & social media I've opted out of that game.
Call me tight but hey ... why pay when you can do it free?
Learning to 'do it yourself' and tap into the new rules and tools toolbox is an investment in your own skill set and earning potential that most small business owners poo-poo.
They want to outsource everything and grow into a big biz. Now if that's your goal then cool.
But if you're a small, micro or small business (call it what you will) you can still outsource the mundane admin stuff and any other repetitive tasks but keep your finger on the pulse of your marketing.
Want to pay a virtual assistant or have an employee to do it for you? That's cool too but stay close and make sure you're not missing huge opportunities that they may not see.
Ok so there's some tips for you to get the most out of your small business marketing.
Today's challenge is take a look at what product or service you can add into your business model so that you can tap into the flow of this digital mobile economy.
Shocking fact: ebook sales rose 17% in 2011 & ebook revenues across trade publishing were over $2 billion. Yes 2 BILLION! (I got these stats from the 'Kindle Revolution' info which I sent you a link to a couple of days ago.
If you fancy watching the presentation do so now if you can as it's closing sometime today. You can publish your own Kindle books as well as physical ones easily through Amazon.
You can set up your own ecommerce store on Amazon. I didn't know this and it's definitely something I'm looking into.
And you can even become a publisher and handle the digital publishing side for others if you fancy your own publishing empire.
Maybe it's time to get started ... what say you?
Check it out here but no hype, registration closes today: Kindle Revolution
I joined and am finding it extremely valuable so if you decide to go for it let me know & we can collaborate. It's not an expensive course but as an extra bonus if you order through my link I'll gift you a free 30 minute digital publishing consult to help you get off to a fast start.
The presentation is well worth your time even if just to give you a flash of the future so you can figure out how this can all fit in with your business model.
Love and success
Rachel
