Practice What You Preach Versus Do, Not Just Teach?

July 31th 2013 Ezine -  Issue #151

Hi

I hope you're enjoying the Summer.  Seems like the first taste of
real Summer we've had here in the UK for years and I'm loving it.

Summer hols are in full swing and getting any productive work
done at home is always a challenge for me at this time of year so
in the school hols I take big chunks of time off to spend with my kids.

If you started a business so you could have more flexibility of
schedule, make sure you set up your systems & programmes
to support YOU in that from the very beginning.

In today's challenge we take a look at a common criticism of gurus, mentors
and coaches. Should you teach something even if you're not practicing it
yourself? Read on below to find out ...

Your Weekly Challenge - Practice What You Preach Versus Do, Not Just Teach

Let's face it, there's no shortage of people happy to pass comment on how we 'should' all be building our businesses.

I often hear judgement passed on how coaches, consultants and gurus operate.

One of the common criticisms is the perennial, 'he's busy teaching instead of doing.'

Or on the opposite end of the spectrum, 'he's for real, he actually practices what he preaches.'

As I've always been a bit of a devil's advocate girl I can see the weakness and the benefit of both of these viewpoints.

On the one hand if you're so busy 'doing' whatever it is you're doing, why would you invest time to teach it to someone else?

A good example of this would be Andy Murray.  He's so busy being a champ that I'm sure the last thing on his mind is coaching or teaching others how to do what he does.

Perhaps he might make time for that when he retires.

Makes sense right? Find out why that might not be a good idea
